The 2011 Volvo S80 has arrived at Volvo of Lisle, a leading Chicago Volvo dealership, with a revised model line-up featuring powertrains with more muscle and a host of added options.

Two trims of the 2011 Volvo S80 are available: the S80 3.2 and the S80 T6 AWD.

The S80 T6 AWD is capable of 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque, gains of 19 horsepower and 30 lb-ft over last year’s model.  In fact, the S80 T6 now offers nearly as much power as the discontinued V8 at a lower price.  The improvements also allow the S80 T6 to go 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds, just 0.3 seconds more than the V8.

The S80 3.2 also receives a boost in power, with its six-cylinder engine now delivering 240 horsepower with a ULEV II emissions rating or 230 horsepower with PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) rating.

Inside the 2011 Volvo S80, drivers and passengers alike will find themselves surrounded by luxury. Leather-trimmed seats with matching stitching come standard and are accompanied by door panels with similar styling. Owners can further that feeling of luxury with the Inscription Package that features Sovereign Hide soft leather seating surfaces, classic walnut wood steering wheel, ventilated front seats, classic wood inlays, upper dash and door panels, Inscription doorsill plates and floor mats, leather and classic walnut wood gearshift lever and a leather center armrest cover.

Other available packages include the Dynamic Package offered on the T6 AWD and a Multimedia Package available on both vehicles.

The Dynamic Package features a Sport Chassis for a lower ride height and, therefore, crisper response.  The package also includes shorter and firmer springs, modified shock damping, firmer anti-roll bars, stiffer subframe bushings, 18-inch “Fortuna” diamond-cut alloy wheels and dual xenon gas discharge headlights.

The Multimedia Package adds a Volvo Premium Sound System with Dolby Pro Logic II Surround Sound, a 650-watt amplifier and 12 premium speakers. The Volvo Navigation System with Real Time Traffic remote control and a new rear park assist camera is also a part of the package.

It isn’t much of a stretch to say that most Volvo owners love their cars, but few have shown it quite like Irv Gordon.

Gordon, a retired science teacher from East Patchogue, N.Y., drives the highest mileage vehicle on the road – a 1966 Volvo P1800.  And, at age 70, Irv is still driving, with the 3 million mile mark just a few years away.

After the two-seat coupe debuted at the auto show in Brussels in 1960, production began a year later, making 2011 the 50th anniversary for the P1800.

Gordon purchased his P1800 in 1966 and drove it 1,500 miles within the first 48 hours.  Between a 125-mile round-trip daily commute and an obvious passion for driving, his P1800 reached 500,000 miles within 10 years.

When Gordon pulled onto the lot of Volvo of Lisle, a leading Chicago Volvo dealer, twenty years later in 1996, his Volvo had traveled nearly 1.5 million miles.

Just two years later, with his odometer at 1.69 million miles, he made the Guinness Book of World Records for most miles driven by a single owner in a non-commercial vehicle.

Now with more than 2.8 million miles on his sporty red Volvo, Gordon confirmed his goal on his birthday last month of reaching 3 million miles before turning 73.

“Three million miles by my 73^rd birthday sounds right,” Gordon said. “But, whether I reach that mark is more up to me than it is the car. The car’s parts have long proven they can take it, but I’m not so sure about my own. Either way, it will be a fantastic testament to the engineering genius of Volvo as well as to the resiliency of folks my age.”
