Volvo Dealer in Chicago Reveals Sustainable Company Practices

Volvo Car Corporation will continue to focus on sustainability in its operations, a major highlight of its 2009-10 Corporate Report, Chicago Volvo dealer, Volvo of Lisle announced.

Volvo has already done a tremendous amount of work to ensure the safety of its drivers. The Swedish automaker is doing the same for the planet. Volvo is devoting a great deal of attention to minimizing its long-term environmental impact.

“Our commitment goes beyond the tailpipe emissions of our cars,” said President and CEO, Stephen Odell. “We believe that our responsibility starts with our supplier chain, through production, use and recycling, encompassing a holistic environmental approach.”

Volvo Cars’ Corporate Report stresses the importance of sustainability issues throughout. One of the report’s highlights is Volvo’s decision to produce a plug-in hybrid in 2012. The Volvo plug-in hybrid will combine a diesel engine with an electric battery that can be charged through a conventional wall outlet. Hybrids are becoming an increasingly popular option with good reason given their reduced emissions, low fuel consumption, and consequently low operating costs.

Another key point in the report is the introduction in Europe of seven fuel-efficient, low-emission diesel DRIVe models. One of the DRIVe models, the second-generation Volvo S40 DRIVe, was named Environmental Car of the Year by the British buyers’ guide What Car?. Other models in the line include the C30, S40, V50, XC60, XC70, S80 and V70.

And these are just the first steps toward sustainability for Volvo.

“The future we see ahead is one in which our cars have no emissions that negatively impact the environment and our cars do not crash,” said Odell. “And it’s not a question of if we get there – it’s a question of when.”
